SAE 2009 World Congress
From 20 to 23 April 2009, Saint-Gobain Ceramic Materials attended the SAE 2009 World Congress in Detroit, MI.USA. For the first time the Saint-Gobain Division of Diesel Particulate Filters presented itself at the world’s largest powertrain, emissions, environment and safety engineering conference as part of the SAE1 trade show.
Featured Speaker, Arnold Schwarzenegger, California's 38th Governor, addressed attendees during the Grand Opening of the SAE 2009 World Congress.
Over 120 participants from automotive companies, universities or research institutes visited the booth. Having made the first appearance at this exhibition, Saint-Gobain got a tremendous good feedback from the market.

SAE World Congress- Tech Award 2009 for Diesel Particulate Filters from Saint-Gobain
Special highlighted in this year was a new Saint-Gobain´s development of high porosity diesel particulate filter substrate, SG4. The editors from Automotive Engineering International, SAE's official medium and leading global source for vehicle technology, nominated SG4 as a top new product. The certificate of AEI 2009 Tech Awards was bestowed to only 10 from over 320 companies having most innovative new product or technology.
The SG4 offers silicon carbide robustness that provides high thermal stability, severe regeneration stability and corrosion resistance
With 60% porosity and a narrow pore size distribution the new microstructure is especially designed to accommodate high washcoat loading with low impact on backpressure. Designed for DeNOx function integration onto DPF substrate, the SG4 takes advantage of highly conductive silicon carbide and narrow pore size distribution. This catalytic function integration allows additional packaging benefit and downsizing potential of the full exhaust system.
The SG4 filter is available with Saint-Gobain’s asymmetric (wavy) cell design structure and offers fuel-economy –optimized technology due to low backpressure, high soot loading operability, and increase regeneration interval.
